About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java applications.
Own complex technical challenges from analysis and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
Shape the architecture and technical direction.
Conduct thorough code reviews and provide feedback that improves quality, maintainability, and performance.
Mentor less experienced developers through pairing, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
Identify and prioritize technical debt and quality risks.
Collaborate with technical leads, product owners, and the quality assurance team.
Use AI-assisted and agentic development tools while remaining accountable for the design, quality, security, and accuracy of deliverables.
Participate in brainstorming sessions, requirements analysis, and solution development within an Agile team.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent experience.
5–7 years or more of experience developing Java back-end applications.
Experience with JUnit, relational databases (PostgreSQL is an asset), and standard tools such as Git, Maven, and a modern IDE.
Demonstrated track record of mentoring developers and providing constructive feedback during code reviews.
Excellent software engineering judgment and the ability to develop pragmatic, maintainable solutions.
Strong understanding of clean code, automated testing, and technical debt management.
Hands-on experience with REST services and API architecture.
Comfortable using AI-assisted or agentic development tools, with full accountability for delivered work.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or hold a valid Canadian work permit.
