About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide high-quality, timely advice on employment relations, performance management, and workplace issues
  • Ensure all advice is grounded in NZ employment legislation, policy, and best practice
  • Identify and manage legal, reputational and operational risk, escalating where required
  • Lead and support ER matters from initial issue through to outcome
  • Conduct or support investigations, ensuring procedural fairness and natural justice
  • Draft and quality assure documentation (letters, summaries, risk assessments, outcomes)
  • Ensure all cases are well-documented, auditable, and legally robust
  • Coach and support people leaders to confidently manage ER situations
  • Promote early intervention and informal resolution where appropriate
  • Strengthen manager self-sufficiency while ensuring consistency and compliance
  • Contribute to policy, process and ER practice improvements
  • Analyse trends and provide insights to support proactive people management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong experience managing end-to-end employment relations cases
  • Solid working knowledge of New Zealand employment law frameworks
  • Proven ability to provide clear, practical and legally sound advice
  • Sound judgement, with the ability to assess and escalate risk appropriately
  • Experience preparing high-quality, defensible ER documentation
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and build trust with leaders
  • Ability to coach and develop managers to lift capability and confidence
  • High level of organisation and attention to detail
  • An inclusive, approachable style
  • Cultural competence, including an understanding of tikanga Māori and Pacific perspectives
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to work across a geographically dispersed organisation
