About the role

  • Manage credit underwriting and credit administration functions for assigned portfolio consistent with TD Bank Group Risk Appetite Principles
  • Establish credit structure, Borrower Risk Ratings and Facility Risk Ratings for new and existing credit relationships
  • Direct Centralized Credit Management staff in portfolio monitoring and origination of new credit exposure
  • Manage and lead a team of Commercial Credit Underwriters and Commercial credit professionals; hire, set goals, develop staff, manage performance and compensation
  • Adjudicate credits of varying complexities and guide team to properly structure credit exposure within bank's risk appetite
  • Ensure adherence to Risk Policies, operational risk processes and drive satisfactory regulatory audits, loan review, internal audits, and compliance audits
  • Exercise loan decision authority up to position limits and attain/ exercise exception and high-risk loan authority
  • Participate in decision appeal discussions with sales management and/or credit risk management
  • Contribute to policy and standards discussions with senior management and lead process improvement and system enhancement initiatives
  • Drive team to meet turnaround requirements while maintaining quality of work and satisfactory portfolio delinquencies and charge-offs
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with business partners and coach Credit Managers and Underwriters to develop value-added credit solutions

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant commercial lending relationship management, underwriting, and/or adjudication experience
  • Prior lending authority >= $1 million preferred
  • Small Business Administration/Agency, Healthcare Practice Solutions, or other specialty lending experience preferred
  • Prior people management experience preferred
  • Proven leadership abilities
  • Proven analytical and research skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to blend technical knowledge and good business judgment
  • Proven organizational, multi-tasking, analytical, time management and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of value-add credit structuring in a commercial banking environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team orientation
  • Ability to work with various levels of business partners
  • Computer literacy with a variety of software programs
  • Demonstrated credit underwriting and administration skills
  • Proven ability to identify and mitigate risk
