About the role

  • Manage credit activities including underwriting new loan requests and monitoring portfolio risk for governmental borrowers (states, counties, cities, towns, school districts, special districts, housing agencies, municipal utilities)
  • Complete comprehensive but concise credit write-ups and conduct financial and industry analysis to ensure sound lending decisions that align with bank risk appetite
  • Perform underwriting analysis of Borrower's character, credit worthiness and financial condition
  • Prepare insightful and timely approval memorandums for presentation to appropriate lending and credit authorities
  • Thoroughly analyze financial statements, management profiles, business and product cycles, cash flow ability, collateral, agings, and other metrics to identify trends and assess financial strength
  • Maintain credit files, monitor updated financial statements and prepare updated analysis memos
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements and identify deviations from Company Commercial Loan Policy
  • Research industry-specific information from outside sources and participate in customer meetings; make direct inquiries as needed
  • Support the lending function by providing analytical support and may train/mentor junior analysts

Requirements

  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years related experience required
  • Demonstrates knowledge of credit and financial analysis techniques
  • Strong understanding of loan risk factors
  • Demonstrates ability to independently gather, consolidate, analyze and summarize data to provide well-considered recommendations
  • Proven ability to identify and quantify subtle business risks and identify key drivers of risk
  • Effective time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Well developed research and analytical skills
  • Developed PC skills including demonstrated proficiency and capability in word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the confidentiality of credit and Customer information
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team orientation
  • Ability to coach, train and lead junior staff in credit and financial analysis techniques
  • Familiarity with government finance preferred but willing to train
  • May require occasional travel
