About the role
- Reporting to the Sr Manager, Payroll Tax and Accounting, the Payroll Tax Specialist must be proficient in the timely processing and balancing of tax information to the general ledger, in compliance with bank policies, procedures, guidelines and all federal, state and local regulations
- Provides a range of analytical, program and/or operational process support within a defined functional area
- Identifies and investigates non-standard operational / reporting / process issues
- Provides recommendations or escalates issues to appropriate area
- Provides regular analysis and/or reporting to support business partners, functional areas or centres of expertise
- May represents the group as a project lead on projects / initiatives and/or at meetings across the organization
- Provides training to others on best practices, processes, etc. as well as guide junior staff for the completion of business as usual functions
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree required
- 3+ years relevant experience required
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of the operating environment, business processes and procedures, and transaction lifecycle for own area
- Requires working professional level knowledge of the functional area and/or business areas supported
- Organized self-starter with excellent analytical, problem-solving and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
- Excellent customer orientation, interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with all levels of staff
- 7 + Years of related experience preferred
- Experience with Workday and PeopleSoft Payroll Systems preferred
- In depth knowledge of payroll processing practices and applicable laws preferred
- Payroll tax analysis experience preferred
- Solid basic accounting skills and knowledge preferred
- Excellent time management skills that enable managing competing priorities preferred
- Experience with multi-state taxes service outsourcing service to third party provider preferred
- Experience with general ledger and reconciliations preferred
- Knowledge of the law-affecting payroll taxes preferred
