Maintains contacts with government officials; liaises with sales and marketing to assist advertising.
May write editorials and conduct weekly editorial meetings.
Monitors and manages writing editorial assignments, edits special reports, viewpoints, etc., and evaluates articles for publishing from outside authors and correspondents.
Plans each issue and coordinates the flow of copy.
Communicates with outside authors regarding manuscript preparation through meetings, phone, and e-mail; resolves problems and sets schedules.
Edits for substance, style, and accuracy; conducts research; ensures proper citation style.
Tracks major tax-related issues to ensure coverage in print and online.
Responsible for long-range planning, including additional features, design, and layout of publication.
Solicits new material and obtains permission to publish commentary from other sources.
Works closely with sales and marketing to assist in maximizing the advertising potential of the product.
Keeps abreast of current events in tax law through pertinent literature, media, and contacts with government officials and others.
Participates in company-sponsored conferences, roundtable discussions, etc.
Adheres to company style guide and established publication deadlines.
Responds to internal and external queries related to published articles; communicates with members of the press as well as government officials.
Supervises subordinate staff, including hiring, recommending raises, disciplinary actions, and termination.
Demonstrated strong knowledge of writing and editing concepts and principles
Must be able to evaluate content for grammar, clarity, and coherence
Technical expertise in tax law, generally acquired through education, but may be acquired on the job
Ability to apply knowledge of tax law and writing concepts in a flexible, appropriate manner to diverse media and formats
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain rapport
Ability to work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced team environment
Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Good computer skills, including a working knowledge of MS Windows
Requirements
JD with LLM in Tax strongly preferred but advanced degree will be considered
6+ years of experience in editing, copy editing print and electronic products, including experience in substantive editing of print documents for online presentation
Previous experience in tax publishing preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of standard style manuals
Must display sound judgment and problem-solving skills
