About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Implement and execute community engagement strategies that cater to local needs while supporting the broader enterprise community strategy.
  • Lead the development, management and curation of a portfolio of community partners to advance Target’s brand and reputation and manage risk in critical markets through philanthropic investments in community nonprofits.
  • Build strong partnerships with community stakeholders in assigned geography through regular communication, market visits and engagements.
  • Develop community activations that foster a sense of belonging for our team, guests, and communities.
  • Stay current on business and community needs through community listening, assess risks, gaps and opportunities, and design and execute solutions leveraging community engagement programs, resources and relationships to achieve stated goals.
  • Proactively build and capitalize on opportunities to amplify Target’s impact in critical markets through marquee events and activations, integration of HQ capabilities in local community engagement initiatives, senior leader involvement etc in community impact programs.
  • Collaborate directly with Stores, GSCL VPs/SDs or HQ leaders to lead and support local community engagement events and initiatives, providing consultation, training, thought-partnership and support on Field-facing programs to help them achieve their goals.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally within assigned region/market with Field Leadership, Government Affairs, Assets Protection, HR and other teams to ensure community impact is represented and contributing to shared business objectives.
  • Lead development of community-specific portfolio strategies over time to achieve stated goals including development of nonprofit pipeline and ongoing management throughout the grant lifecycle; manage grant execution, processing and vetting for identified non-profit/NGO partners; and ensuring proposal and reporting compliance, adherence to grant agreements, and timely and accurate processing in partnership with Philanthropy Operations team.
  • Responsible for the budget management of corporate giving philanthropic funds.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across CSE on programmatic and operational processes and routines including team member engagement programs, community events and activations, data/reporting needs, communication initiatives and team member trainings.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Four-year degree in Communications, Public Relations, Non-Profit Management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in stakeholder engagement, corporate affairs, philanthropy, or related fields, with a proven track record of building and managing relationships with senior leaders, external stakeholders, and community organizations.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in community engagement, public relations, or a related role.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful community engagement strategies including managing philanthropic portfolios in alignment with key company priorities and relevant community needs.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to operate and meet goals in highly dynamic, ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to develop effective and collaborative relationships with key business leaders in order to drive accountability, instill confidence, and influence outcomes across business functions and levels.
  • Demonstrated strategic skills with the ability to assess and challenge the current state, develop new approaches and solutions, and identify and execute the tactics necessary to drive successful implementation.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage projects simultaneously, maintaining appropriate prioritization and ensuring adherence to deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing non-profit relationships and partnerships.
