About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Fully responsible for system requirements, design robust solutions and ensure high‑quality delivery
Provide guidance and support on program design, development, testing and documentation
Informally coach and mentor less experienced engineers
Lead peer code reviews
Support offshore teams by clarifying requirements
Translate system requirements into clear designs and solutions
Produce functional and technical specifications
Design and build RPG programs and enhancements
Review and approve code artefacts
Plan and execute testing to ensure error‑free delivery
Contribute to Software Engineering standards, tools and policies
Take ownership of development solutions for critical project components
Estimate and track progress on tasks
Identify efficiency opportunities
Participate in client meetings, present solutions clearly
Support users in defining acceptance criteria and tests
Identify and resolve customer issues

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong IBM i and iO/S knowledge
CL
RPG/400, RPG IV, ILE, Free Format RPG
SQL & IBM i Stored Procedures
MQ
Query/400
Development tools: RAD/i, VS Code, Jira & Confluence, Rocket Aldon DevOps for i
Experience using AI code assistants (desirable)
Knowledge of latest IBM i features (iO/S 7.6) (desirable)
Performance tuning and optimisation on IBM i (desirable)
