About the role

  • Lead the payroll process for Tanium’s US operations and foster relationships with senior internal stakeholders
  • Own the payroll processing of US salaried payroll for 1,400 employees and hourly payroll for 100 employees
  • Prepare payroll input files, process and review payroll outputs to verify accuracy and compliance
  • Act as subject matter expert in US payroll providing guidance to team members and internal stakeholders
  • Lead automation initiatives and process enhancements, collaborating cross-functionally with HR, IT, Legal, and Accounting
  • Ensure adherence to best practices to minimize errors and maintain operational excellence (benefits administration and withholdings)
  • Assist with month-end close activities such as payroll journal entries and GL account reconciliations
  • Respond to employee inquiries and serve as liaison between employees and third-party providers
  • Audit, reconcile and fund 401k contributions and research/resolve discrepancies in real time
  • Review payroll and tax reporting and ensure accurate and timely filings with government authorities
  • Manage and track tax inquiries, amendments, adjustments and follow up with tax team
  • Complete quarter-end and year-end reconciliations for tax filings and W-2 filings
  • Lead payroll related audits (Workers Compensation and 401k) and provide ad-hoc support on special projects and international payroll coverage as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of end-to-end payroll processing including companies with 1,800+ employees
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems: UKG Pro and UKG WFM (NetSuite, SAP SuccessFactors, PwC Global Payroll and Workday are a plus)
  • US payroll subject matter expertise – strong understanding of payroll processes, best practices, and thorough knowledge of payroll-related state, legal, tax, and compliance requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interface with all levels including executive team members
  • Proactive, high-energy approach with exceptional management skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Knowledge of equity issues and how they relate to payroll reporting and tax (RSU, NQ, ISO)
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups)
  • Experience/certification preferred, but not required: CPP; International payroll (Canada, EMEA and/or APAC); Payroll systems implementations; Payroll accounting; SOX compliance and considerations
