About the role

  • The Vice President Bioinformatics and Software Engineering will lead the development and implementation of scalable software systems and bioinformatics pipelines supporting whole genome sequencing (WGS) and clinical diagnostics. This executive-level role combines deep expertise in genomics, cloud engineering, and regulatory compliance to drive innovation in computational biology and precision medicine. The ideal candidate will build and manage a multidisciplinary team and lead the strategy for bioinformatics infrastructure in a clinical setting.
  • Responsibilities: Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for bioinformatics and software engineering in support of regulated diagnostic products Lead the design, development, and validation of NGS pipelines, including WGS and RNA-seq, in compliance with CLIA/CAP and FDA requirements Oversee software development, cloud infrastructure, internal tooling, APIs, and production systems to support clinical diagnostics and lab operations Establish engineering best practices in code management, testing, deployment, data traceability, and auditability Recruit, manage, and mentor a high-performing team of bioinformaticians and software engineers Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, and Product teams to integrate bioinformatics into diagnostic product development Shape data strategy including long-term infrastructure, real-world evidence generation, and AI/ML enablement Ensure regulatory and security compliance across all systems and workflows Leverage open-source technologies and modern cloud-based platforms (AWS preferred) to build scalable, reliable software solutions

Requirements

  • PhD or MS in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field Minimum of 10 years of experience in bioinformatics and software engineering for next-generation sequencing (NGS), particularly whole genome sequencing Demonstrated success in building and scaling cloud-based platforms for regulated diagnostics Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional technical teams in a clinical or healthcare setting Strong understanding of compliance standards including CLIA, CAP, and FDA submissions Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage both technical and executive stakeholders
