About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage acquisition of corporate requirements and issue contractual commitments on behalf of Talen Energy
  • Execute procurement activities for capital projects
  • Negotiate contracts for materials, equipment, and services from project development through construction
  • Procure standard, off-the-shelf, and made-to-order plant parts at the best evaluated total cost of ownership
  • Assure quality and schedule compliance with end-user requirements
  • Manage inventory, including stocking levels, purchasing quantities, and warehousing locations
  • Administer contracts and purchase orders
  • Conduct negotiations and market, price, and financial analysis
  • Develop supplier and customer relationships and drive continuous improvement and productivity
  • Work with Legal to incorporate commercial protections and achieve optimal business results
  • Perform supply chain and logistics functions, including material procurement, production planning, inventory control, outsourcing, vendor selection, and distribution
  • Analyze and develop company positions on claims and disputes and consult senior management on resolutions
  • Manage procurement from specification and definition of need through purchase order or contract issuance
  • Evaluate supply sources and develop pricing, warranty, and product/service performance requirements
  • Use strategic sourcing methods including RFPs, RFQs, alliances, auctions, blanket orders, contracts, master service agreements, and purchase orders
  • Identify new suppliers, products, and technologies
  • Maintain ethical professional relationships with suppliers and partners
  • Interact with all levels of plant personnel, including plant managers and direct staff
  • Observe plant and site safety rules and protocols

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1 to 3 years of materials and/or services buying experience
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to interpret internal or external business issues and recommend solutions or best practices
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to work independently, with guidance only in the most complex situations
  • Must embody the Company’s Vision, Mission, and Values
  • Off-hour, after-hour, and weekend availability as necessary
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must not require employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must observe plant and site safety rules and protocols
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Experience in electric utility buying preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and databases preferred
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills preferred
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills preferred
  • Demonstrated problem-assessment and problem-solving skills preferred
  • Strong customer service focus and ability to build credibility with internal clients and external suppliers preferred
  • Market knowledge of products, equipment, and services preferred
  • Basic knowledge of business law, commercial terms and conditions, and related legal issues preferred
  • Fundamental understanding of industrial machinery and equipment and general maintenance required to operate them safely and reliably preferred
