Engineering Manager

• Provide guidance, mentorship, and career development for a team of software engineers.
• Provide guidance on architecture and scoping to execute on projects successfully.
• Provide technical direction in projects and grow technical leadership capabilities of reports.
• Hire, interview and recruit; guide engineering culture and develop processes as organization grows.
• Lead Pods (2-3 pods of 2-4 engineers plus PM and Designer) and manage cross-codebase feature implementation and customer requests.
• Achieve significant business outcomes through cross-functional collaboration with product managers, data scientists, and designers.
• Help team improve performance and quality of work; make major design decisions.
• Hire, nurture, and oversee a team while fostering psychological well-being, diversity and inclusion.
• Lead team responsible for managing a critical production service including operational concerns (monitoring, alerting, on call).
• Manage healthy conflict, moderate design discussions, and cultivate positive culture of feedback.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to complete complex projects spanning multiple technical domains.
• Drive planning across multiple time horizons from tactical to strategic.

Engineering Manager, Networking Features

Executive Assistant

• Directly support the SVP of Operations by maintaining focus and eliminating distractions
• Collaborate extensively with the leadership team while taking ownership of various responsibilities
• Manage the SVP of Operation's professional calendar, ensuring purposeful meetings with clear agendas and prepared attendees
• Provide administrative support by creating, editing, and facilitating presentations (including slide decks, spreadsheets, and other documents)
• Establish and maintain a comprehensive filing system, ensuring accessibility for the executive team
• Prioritize and assign work to department staff based on delegated authority
• Respond to inquiries or refer them to the appropriate partner both internally and externally
• Respond to inquiries, attend meetings as a note-taker, and facilitate agenda items
• Collect, prioritize, and propel the execution of key decisions
• Arrange detailed domestic and international travel plans and itineraries
• Additional administrative functions include creating expense reports, planning for and assisting with offsites, and the preparation of documents for signature and presentations
• Prioritize conflicting requests and needs and handle matters proactively, swiftly, and to completion while meeting deadlines
• Take a team-oriented approach and provide assistance to other Executive Assistants as required
• Review, prioritize, and (using your discretion) respond to emails on the SVP of Operation’s behalf
• Periodic travel, approximately once a quarter, to support executive needs and enhance collaboration with key stakeholders

Backend Engineer

• Develop the Tailscale product, contributing to both open source client code and related backend services
• Take ownership of the entire product lifecycle, from writing code to product ideation and strategic decision-making
• Work closely with UX/UI designers and product managers to shape features
• Because we’re an early-stage and fully remote company, we’re looking for a strongly motivated individual who can help move the product forward. The ability to think on your feet, collaborate with highly technical teams, and comfort working asynchronously are essential.
• Key Responsibilities
• Work as part of a team of engineers to design, build, test, and document core software components.
• Develop product features in areas that include our control plane, our relay infrastructure, and our identity integrations.
• Exhibit ownership over the running services that comprise Tailscale’s product by building for observability, participating in incident response, and fielding customer support escalations.
• Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources.
• Bring a security-first mindset to both design and implementation.
