About the role
- Ownership of core backend systems and data platform, serving as the backbone of our product and business workflows.
- Design and evolution of scalable, high-performance architectures, handling complex, data-intensive use cases.
- Building resilient distributed systems, ensuring reliability, observability, and fault tolerance at scale.
- Driving system performance and efficiency, optimizing data flows, APIs, and backend services.
- Shaping the infrastructure that enables AI and advanced analytics, without being limited to traditional data engineering paradigms.
- Leading backend development standards, including architecture, code quality, and operational excellence.
- Leading and growing a team of strong backend engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and technical excellence.
- Cross-team collaboration with Product, Data, and other R&D teams to design systems that support evolving business and data needs.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience, building and operating production-grade systems.
- 2+ years of engineering leadership experience, managing and mentoring developers.
- Strong experience in designing scalable, distributed backend systems (microservices, event-driven architecture, etc.).
- Proven ability to work on high-scale, data-intensive systems — with a focus on performance and reliability.
- Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure) and modern backend technologies.
- Strong understanding of system design, data flows, and service architecture (not just pipelines).
- Experience working with complex domains and messy real-world data — advantage.
- Familiarity with AI/ML-driven systems or enabling infrastructure — advantage.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- High ownership mindset — you take responsibility for systems end-to-end, not just components.
