About the role
- Provides a strategic approach to distribution of produce products and services to customers.
- Establishes and execute sales strategy for the produce category to meet or exceed profitable sales targets.
- Provides training, product information, regulatory guidance, market cost guidance and customer service to internal and external customers in support of the distribution of products and services.
- Lead a team of up to 5 Produce Planners to maintain appropriate inventory levels in meeting customer demand (Service Levels) while maximizing inventory turns and controlling shrink.
- Drive produce sales opportunities by collaborating with Sales Leadership.
- Partner with Sales and Marketing management, including Produce Specialist, in developing successful sales strategies for growing profitable produce sales; and work with front line sales associates, Specialists, and District Sales Managers to execute your produce sales strategy.
- Develop and implement innovative, impactful produce marketing/promotional agendas.
- Direct strategies to improve service level through SKU rationalization and purchasing analysis.
- Manage regional market cost decisions on a weekly basis and collaborate with Revenue Manager and VP of Merchandising to provide customer specific pricing for key customers.
- Schedule and manage category sales training of sales and provide timely and effective communication with sales teams including but not limited to market conditions, product quality and availability, new items and applications.
- Direct strategies for maximizing loadfill of all inbound products utilizing efficient loading strategy, consolidation and re-distribution where appropriate.
- Directs strategies to improve shrink management programs and work closely with QA to address aging products.
- Comply with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years in a leadership capacity.
- Significant produce industry experience, sales, merchandising and/or operations experience within a retail, wholesale or distribution environment.
- Ability to manage & implement innovative strategies to maximize sales & gross profit potential while driving customer loyalty & sales engagement.
- Post secondary education in Business, Marketing or related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of AS400, E3, DPR, and Tableau an asset.
- Negotiation - Effectively exploring alternatives and positions to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to a vehicle is required.
- Some travel may be required (up to 20%)
