CIS Application Support Engineer – Customer, COBOL

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support and maintain the Customer/1 CIS application
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in COBOL, batch jobs, and related components
- Analyze billing, metering, payments, collections, and customer workflows
- Implement small enhancements, fixes, and logic updates
- Work with business users to understand issues and translate them into technical solutions
- Ensure system stability, data integrity, and accurate billing operations
- Participate in on-call or after-hours support rotations (if required)
Requirements
What you’ll need- Hands-on experience with Customer/1 (C/1) — required
- Strong COBOL programming and maintenance skills
- Experience supporting CIS systems in utilities (electric, gas, water)
- Understanding of billing cycles, meter reads, payments, adjustments, and customer account logic
- Ability to troubleshoot complex legacy code and batch processes
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working independently
- Bonus: experience with mainframe environments, JCL, DB2, or related legacy tech.
