About the role

  • Lead the technical development, accuracy, and uncertainty qualification, testing, verification, and maintenance of analytical methods for evaluating steady-state and transient core/fuel performance.
  • Perform thermal hydraulic analyses to support development of new plant designs and to support repairs, uprates, and life extensions for existing BWR fleet.
  • Conduct comprehensive reactor thermal hydraulic studies such as moisture carryover (MCO), leakage, and hydrodynamic analyses.
  • Use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for modeling advanced reactor design system thermal hydraulics.
  • Apply high-level programming skills to support complex analyses and simulations.
  • Work within a regulatory framework for nuclear software quality assurance for engineering programs.
  • Prepare, document, and present technical data to both internal and external customers and interface with regulatory agencies (NRC, DOE, etc.) as necessary.
  • Enhance team processes to drive efficiency and simplification; communicate with method users through support, documentation, and training.
  • Ensure high-quality work in compliance with NRC regulations, customer requirements, and business quality standards.
  • Collaborate with global team members across various time zones and foster a team culture rooted in teamwork, integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, computational methods or closely related discipline AND minimum of 4 years of cumulative, relevant engineering experience.
  • OR Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, computational methods or closely related discipline with thesis or substantial coursework with nuclear thermal-hydraulic physics and analysis AND minimum of 2 years of cumulative, relevant engineering experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel with less than 10% travel (domestic or international).
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information; final offers contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team.
  • Displays a strong drive for continuous improvement and an engaging, can-do, optimistic attitude.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, problem solving skills, and process skills.
  • Experience with thermal-hydraulic methods such as TRAC, TRACG, COBRAG, PANAC, RELAP, and ISCOR (desired).
  • Competency in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using tools like ANSYS-Fluent (desired).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, and Fortran (desired).
  • Experience with software Commercial Grade Dedication as per NQA-1 standards (desired).
  • Familiarity with nuclear reactor core licensing, technical specifications, safety margin bases, and related federal regulations (desired).
  • Publication of technical articles or patents (desired).
  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or equivalent quality certification (desired).
