About the role
- Lead high-level substation and transmission efforts for new and expanding Switch campuses.
- Develop conceptual one-line diagrams, substation arrangements, and transmission interconnect strategies during early-stage development.
- Evaluate utility-served vs. Switch-owned infrastructure options to determine the most reliable and cost-effective solutions.
- Assist internal Switch Engineering teams with interpreting and applying utility interconnection standards to ensure compliant and efficient substation designs and power delivery from source utilities.
- Provide technical guidance through design and construction to maintain consistency with project intent and utility requirements.
- Serve as technical interface between Switch, utilities, consultants, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Document and assist with procurement with Switch Supply Chain for needed long lead equipment to meet Switchs in service dates.
- Participate and facilitate strategic long term power capacity planning and architecture for current and planned Switch campuses as related to Switch owned electrical infrastructure or utility provided infrastructure.
- Oversee generator interconnection studies and associated input gathering from internal parties within Switch and the Utility.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or related discipline preferred.
- Focus on Power Systems a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience in substation, transmission, or utility project engineering.
- Knowledge of utility interconnection processes and substation design principles.
- Experience working with or for electric utilities, EPC firms or large industrial customers focusing on electric utility infrastructure.
- Experience supporting mission-critical or datacenter electric infrastructure projects.
- Electric Utility Industry knowledge.
- Transmission and Substation Experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD.
