Key responsibilities & impact

Provide clinical and clerical support to providers and patient care teams
Perform back-office and patient-related tasks supporting high-quality patient care
Help ensure smooth patient and departmental workflow
Assist the patient care team in implementing the medical plan of care
Educate and interact with patients, families/support groups, and healthcare providers
Perform duties under the direction of a clinician
Take vital signs, prepare patients for examinations, and administer injections
Interpret written, oral, diagram, and schedule-based data and instructions
Prioritize assignments and meet deadlines within standardized procedures
Work independently and as part of a team while managing multiple interrupted tasks
Identify, evaluate, and resolve standard problems using established solutions
Collaborate with peers and healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives
Handle hazardous drugs when required, following NIOSH and USP 800 guidelines

Requirements

What you’ll need

High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Completion of a course of study meeting California Medical Board requirements for Medical Assistants, with diploma presented within 90 days, OR completion of Sutter Health on-the-job medical assisting training equivalent to one year
BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification
1 year of recent relevant experience
General knowledge of medical procedures, views, and equipment
Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
Competence and validation in basic medical assisting skills, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and administering injections
Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, and schedule-based data and instructions
Written and verbal communication skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences
Time management and organizational skills, including prioritization and meeting deadlines
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve standard problems using established solutions
Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and healthcare providers
Ability to handle hazardous drugs in accordance with NIOSH and USP 800 guidelines
