Ambulatory Pharmacy Technician II
Sutter HealthAmbulatory Pharmacy Technician supporting overall pharmacy operations, ensuring safe medication therapy at Sutter Health. Role includes coordinating with healthcare staff and managing patient care initiatives.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Participates in and supports the overall operation of the pharmacy technicians.
- Serves as the liaison between the department and staff, information systems, physicians, patients, family, and other site staff.
- Performs pharmaceutical procedures for medication preparation and distribution that ensures safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy.
- Exercises sound judgment and has developed clinical skills to provide pharmaceutical support to the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner.
- Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety.
- May also be responsible for performing specific tasks and/or orient other staff to the department.
- Manage cold chain packaging for temperature-sensitive medications; coordinate shipping and track deliveries to ensure compliance.
- Support specialty pharmacy patients with medication adherence, refill reminders, and care coordination; communicate with healthcare providers.
- Assist in managing medication inventory and conduct regular stock audits; ensure proper storage and timely replenishment.
- Work with pharmacists, providers, and the pharmacy team to ensure seamless patient care; participate in team meetings for workflow improvements.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program OR Met Board of Pharmacy requirements to obtain registration
- PHRMTECHR-Registered Pharmacy Technician OR PHARMC-Certified Pharmacy Technician OR PHARMT-Pharmacy Technician OR PHARMI-Pharmacy Intern
- 1 year recent relevant experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations and laws and regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of different Pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery and procedures.
- Requires a basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission, Title XXII, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
- Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
- Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), related pharmaceutical technology, EHR, and EPIC.
