About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Shape and align Sun Life Canada’s digital technology strategy across business units
  • Define platform roadmaps, OKRs, sequencing, and investment priorities
  • Provide technology leadership for shared digital platforms including secure web, public web, secure mobile, identity and access management, and design systems
  • Oversee end-to-end delivery of digital platform capabilities across internal teams, vendors, and system integrators
  • Improve delivery velocity, quality, reliability, predictability, and agile maturity
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for platform, delivery, vendor, and dependency issues
  • Lead, mentor, and develop technology leaders and teams
  • Design team structures and support workforce planning, succession planning, and capability development
  • Manage budgets, forecasting, capitalization, investment prioritization, and technology spend optimization
  • Manage strategic vendor and system integrator relationships
  • Ensure application stability, security, technology currency, resiliency, and decommissioning
  • Establish governance for risk, audit, regulatory, cybersecurity, and control requirements
  • Oversee incident management, change management, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
  • Represent Digital technology in executive forums and communicate strategy, risks, trade-offs, and dependencies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in senior technology leadership roles
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex, mission-critical digital platforms
  • Experience modernizing and enabling digital platforms such as identity, web, mobile, integration, or client/advisor experience platforms
  • Proven ability to lead technology teams through transformation, platform ownership, and operating model evolution
  • Experience managing sizable technology budgets, vendor portfolios, and total cost of ownership
  • Strong stakeholder management, executive communication, and organizational leadership skills
  • Experience in regulated financial services is valuable
  • Depth in digital enablement, engineering excellence, and vendor-heavy delivery environments prioritized
  • French and English bilingualism, oral and written, required for Quebec-based positions
  • Technical credibility with architecture, delivery practices, platform decisions, and CI/CD approaches
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity, complexity, and transformation
