Job Level
About the role
- End-to-end ownership of a core product domain: architecture, implementation, and reliability
- Technical direction: make meaningful architectural calls, document them, and defend them
- Quality bar: code review standards, testing discipline, and engineering norms for your team
- Shipping velocity: keep a small team unblocked, focused, and moving at a pace that compounds
- Team growth: hire 3-5 engineers under you over the next 12 months and make them better
- Cross-functional partnership: work directly with product, research, and clinical teams — no layers
Requirements
- You have built things that mattered: as a founder, founding engineer, or first technical hire at a company that shipped real product to real users
- You have owned backend systems under production load: not just contributed to them
- This is not a manager role that has drifted away from the keyboard. You are a strong programmer. You write code every day.
- You are ready to lead a small team and grow into owning an engineering org: you have led people in some capacity (even informally) and made them better
- You communicate with high clarity: in PRs, OKRs, architecture docs, and direct conversation
- You thrive in ambiguity: you define the problem before you solve it, and you do not need a perfect spec to start
