Represent the engineering customer when developing protection software, providing requirements and guidance to software developers
Test the software embodiments of protection algorithms to ensure they meet the needs and expectations of the customer, including the use of real-time hardware-in-the-loop simulators
Build support for developing novel protection solutions by promoting them to stakeholders within S&C and to potential customers of S&C
Author technical papers and present at technical conferences
Participate in and contribute to working groups of professional associations such as IEEE PSRC and CIGRE
Research future customer needs through literature review, conferences, discussions with colleagues and external customers, and participation in industry activities
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, a master’s degree or higher is preferred
10 years of relevant industry or academic experience after earning a Bachelor’s degree
At least 2 years of industry experience planning distribution system protection
Programming experience (any language)
Well versed in concepts such as time-current coordination, ground and negative sequence protection, fuse saving and sequence coordination, fuse-recloser coordination
Proficient in distribution protection software tools such as CYMDIST, CYMTCC, and Synergi Electric
Experienced in configuring protection relays using the relay’s setup software such as acSELerator QuickSet, IntelliLink Setup Software, DIGSI, or EnerVista
Familiar with protection relay testing and event analysis
Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate with colleagues
Professional engineer license (preferred but not required)
Contribution to research and development (R&D) activities (preferred but not required)
Product management experience (preferred but not required)
Working with communication networks, to include Ethernet, peer-to-peer and mesh radio, cellular, and fiber (preferred but not required)
Designing and testing configurable logic using DNP3, IEC 61850, or IEC 60870-5-104 (IEC 104) (preferred but not required)
