About the role
- Actively manage the performance of the commodity portfolio of direct material suppliers to ensure that all KPIs’ are met
- Develop and implement a global sourcing strategy for each of the categories/commodities based on industry and market trends and conditions, and continue to assess in the medium/long-term (3-5 years) horizon
- Perform Supplier Development action plans/improvement plans through regular business reviews with the suppliers
- Ownership of Supplier Business Reviews (SBR)
- Plan and conduct strategic and tactical negotiations related to supply and purchase agreements with a view to mutual benefits and success
- Lead supplier evaluations and communicate the results to the supplier, internal customers and the leadership team
- Assess new suppliers for business fit, financial stability and ensure that they will provide best overall value to S&C
- Lead and/or participate in a formal Category Management process
- Develop long-term project plans to increase the number of qualified suppliers on the S&C Approved Supplier Matrix (ASM)
- Ensure that only ASM-Q suppliers are used in supplying S&C with materials
- Using Net Cost reporting, ensure that market inflation/deflation is understood in each portfolio and develop, where required, mitigation plans
- Ensure the use and promotion of ASM-Q suppliers on NPD (New Product Development) projects and look to mitigate supply chain risk if identified
- Negotiate prices and make contract commitments with established and new suppliers
- Conduct regular comprehensive commercial audits and financial review of the supply base
- Escalation management and conduit from supplier to senior management team
- Ensure that all sourcing project plans are updated and maintained on a regular basis
Requirements
- Degree in business or technical discipline
- MBA or current certification by ISM (CSM/CPSM) or APICS CSCP would be beneficial
- Work experience in a similar capacity managing direct material category, preferably in a mechanical manufacturing or heavy industrial manufacturing environment
- Work record showing the ability to conceive and implement strategic sourcing initiatives and assure their long-term success
- Demonstrated experience leading and participating on cross-functional global teams
- Experience with and understanding of manufacturing processes for industrial products and components
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including personal and group presentations
- Highly skilled in the use of business technology and communication tools
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Office
- Ability to travel domestically or internationally 35% of the time
