The Test Engineer is responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and provide technical support for S&C’s medium-voltage switchgear. This includes testing S&C switchgear with S&C and third-party Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) for protection and control applications.
Review customer requirements during design stage and work with design project engineers to finalize the relays and automation requirements.
Develop logic diagrams and verify the schematic drawings for applications and programming.
Use customer and/or equipment specifications to develop, execute, and document detailed test procedures for factory acceptance testing of S&C and third-party IEDs integrated with S&C MV switchgear for utility and commercial/industrial customers.
Work alongside Project Managers and other team members to host customers during the FAT, guaranteeing exceptional service and a positive experience at S&C locations.
Assist in the proposal development process by supplying detailed cost estimates and providing relevant technical insights to ensure a comprehensive and effective submission.
Provide customers post-commissioning support over the phone or MS Teams to ensure equipment operates according to customer requirements.
Independently resolve any issues during the testing process and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve issues during the testing process, as required.
Apply knowledge of industry standards and communication protocols to ensure compliance with protection and control projects.
Stay abreast with the latest technology advancements, new products, systems, and features and apply knowledge to S&C projects to remain competitive in the market.
Continue development of Standard Work Practices to aid in effective and consistent project execution, with a focus on simplifying design and increasing efficiency.
Recognize and adhere to S&C and industry safety practices and champion safe working practices.
Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
At least 3 years of experience with MV switchgear and electric distribution systems.
Familiar with utility and commercial/industrial best practices for medium-voltage applications.
Introductory knowledge of protection schemes, relay logic and programming, and automation engineering.
Knowledge of communication protocols/standards, such as DNP 3.0 and IEC 61850.
Knowledge of industry standards, including IEEE, IEC, and NFPA.
Proficient computer skills, including experience using Oracle and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Familiar with site-based safety protocols and experience interacting with de-energized medium-voltage switchgear.
Interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships in person and in a remote environment.
Proficient communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation); able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
Able to successfully present to customers in a small, face-to-face environment.
Practical organizational, planning and project management skills, coordinating internal and external resources and juggling a heavy volume of diverse projects and assignments.
