About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Define and own the multi-year technology roadmap and architecture strategy aligned with business goals
Evaluate and evolve the technology stack for scalability, security, and reliability
Champion product stability and platform resilience
Own build-vs-buy and vendor/technology partnership decisions
Maintain legacy platforms and develop potential migration strategies and profit optimization
Lead a distributed engineering organization across the US and India
Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent and build a strong leadership bench
Establish engineering best practices covering code quality, testing, CI/CD, incident response, and security
Drive collaboration and communication across distributed teams
Partner with Product on roadmap prioritization and technical feasibility
Work with Sales and Customer Success on technical escalations and enterprise requirements
Represent Engineering in executive strategic planning, budgeting, and board-level initiatives
Own engineering KPIs including uptime, reliability, velocity, technical debt reduction, defect reporting, and AI utilization
Oversee security and compliance, including SOC II audits, penetration testing, and privacy compliance
Manage the engineering budget, SaaS platform margin, headcount planning, and vendor contracts
Ensure compliance with SaaS data security, privacy, and industry regulations
Deliver first-year outcomes including a technical roadmap, improved stability and uptime, stronger US/India collaboration, and senior leadership hiring and retention milestones

Requirements

What you’ll need

12+ years of software engineering experience
5+ years in senior technology leadership, such as CTO or equivalent, at a SaaS company
Proven experience leading distributed or global engineering teams, ideally including India-based teams
Track record of scaling engineering organizations from startup to mid-market SaaS
Experience building or scaling AI/ML-powered product features and driving AI adoption in engineering
Strong technical foundation in modern web architecture, cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, APIs, and data security
Experience partnering with executive leadership on business strategy
Excellent communication skills, including translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and the board
Experience with M&A technical due diligence, platform migrations, or major re-architecture projects is a plus
