About the role
- Create and update 2D and 3D mechanical models, layouts and drawings for HVAC, chilled water systems, air distribution, piping and mechanical equipment.
- Develop fabrication-level drawings, equipment arrangements, pipe routing, supports and schematics based on engineer direction.
- Maintain accurate mechanical models in Revit or CAD platforms, ensuring consistency with engineering updates and project standards.
- Coordinate mechanical layouts with electrical, plumbing, architectural and structural models to avoid clashes and ensure smooth integration.
- Prepare drawing sets including plans, sections, elevations, isometrics, schedules and details.
- Support the creation and maintenance of MEP module CAD standards, templates, libraries and drafting workflows.
- Process markups from engineers and incorporate design changes throughout concept, design development and construction phases.
- Participate in model review sessions and design coordination meetings.
- Assist with as-built documentation and updates based on construction feedback.
- Maintain organized file structures, version control and consistent documentation practices.
Requirements
- Associate degree or technical certification in CAD, drafting, mechanical design.
- 6–10 years of experience as a mechanical CAD or Revit designer that includes data center design projects.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; experience with Navisworks or similar coordination tools is preferred.
- Understanding of mechanical building systems such as HVAC, hydronic systems, piping and mechanical utilities.
- Ability to interpret engineering sketches, markups, P&IDs and mechanical specifications.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC, IPC is a plus).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clean, accurate drawings.
- Good communication skills and comfort working with engineers and cross-discipline teams.
- Ability to work on multiple projects and manage deliverables with quick turnaround times.
- Comfortable working in a highly coordinated 3D workflow with multiple trades.
- A process-driven mindset with a focus on consistent documentation and quality.
- Willingness to learn new tools, standards and workflows as the design program evolves.
- Interest in modular design, prefabrication and emerging mechanical design technologies.
