About the role
- Execute daily payroll operations including defensive data queries, payroll setup maintenance (earnings/deductions codes, tax mapping, garnishment vendors, SUI rates, GL costing), time transaction review, payroll processing, auditing, error correction, and distribution.
- Review, analyze, reconcile, and interpret payroll data related to taxation, garnishments, and regulatory compliance for multi-state payrolls; validate interfaces with ADP and third-party systems.
- Provide responsive customer service to employees and managers regarding payroll inquiries via phone and online channels; investigate and resolve escalated payroll issues submitted through the myHR portal.
- Partner with HR business teams and Centers of Excellence (COEs) and collaborate with divisional finance teams to resolve reconciliation discrepancies and drive process improvements.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of electronic and manual payroll transactions.
- Perform regression and functional testing of system changes to ensure accuracy and integrity of payroll system updates and enhancements.
- Occasionally work onsite in Kalamazoo (one to two days per week) with approximately 10% travel.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- 1+ years of work experience in payroll
- Previous business-facing HR, HR COE, HR Operations, or related experience (preferred)
- Experience supporting Americas payroll regulations (U.S. and Canada) (preferred)
- 1+ years of federal, state, and local tax reporting experience (preferred)
- Demonstrated expertise in HRIS and payroll systems; preferred experience with ADP systems and Workday Payroll
- Advanced MS Excel and analytical skills
- Typing proficiency
- Experience using a case management system such as ServiceNow
- Ability to work onsite in Kalamazoo 1-2 days per week and up to 10% travel
