About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Direct and coordinate special education compliance staff in preparing and documenting compliance documents
  • Develop, implement, and disseminate best practices for special education policies and procedures
  • Oversee development, compliance, maintenance, and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Ensure fiscal compliance for special education programs, including IDEA Part B funds
  • Ensure compliance with school, local, state, and federal special education reporting
  • Coordinate student accommodations during state testing with the Testing Manager and team
  • Support ACTC’s and coordinators during testing dates
  • Develop processes with enrollment and records teams for timely identification and enrollment of students with special needs
  • Communicate changes in processes and procedures to special education compliance staff
  • Ensure special education students are integrated into school activities
  • Coordinate collaboration among general education teachers, special education teachers, and administrative staff
  • Collect data for internal special education studies
  • Work directly with parents and students when necessary
  • Research and implement non-K12 curriculum resources meeting state standards as needed
  • Manage compliance, coordinator, and clerk staff
  • Oversee onboarding and training of new compliance staff
  • Help articulate the school’s mission and vision
  • Use communication technologies supporting a virtual/remote work environment
  • Ensure the school meets student needs while complying with applicable laws
  • Directly supervise 30–40 FTE regular employees and/or contractors
  • Interview, hire, train, assign, direct, and appraise employees; address complaints and resolve problems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Texas Special Education Teaching Certification / valid state Special Education teaching certification
  • Master’s Degree in education, special education, or related field of study
  • Five (5) years of educational experience
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify
  • Demonstrable leadership, organizational, and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Microsoft Office and web proficiency
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction
  • Ability to work typically 8am–5pm Central Time
  • Experience as an online / virtual educator (desired)
  • Supervisory experience in an online environment (desired)
