About the role
- Serve as the go-to legal advisor and partner for several Product, Design, Marketing, and Engineering teams focused on building Strava’s next generation of products and features throughout the product life cycle, from ideation to launch and beyond.
- Advise on high‑risk or novel activities (e.g. new AI use cases, features implicating health data, or sensitive user information), helping structure appropriate safeguards, governance, and documentation.
- Develop strategies for handling legal issues in creative ways and build processes for scaling flexible solutions that address risk.
- Monitor evolving legal and regulatory developments and provide clear and cogent guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver training to up-level skills and knowledge across the organization on relevant legal and regulatory topics.
Requirements
- JD with 8+ years relevant work experience in a demanding and innovative legal environment; at least 2 years in-house at a consumer tech company preferred.
- Strong knowledge of US federal and state privacy and data‑security laws, plus working knowledge of GDPR and/or other global privacy frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with technical teams (Product, Engineering, Information Security) to translate legal and regulatory requirements into innovative, delightful, and compliant products and features.
- Demonstrated experience advising on emerging US and global AI legal requirements and AI‑governance best practices, and experience advising on AI/ML tools, vendors, or products from a privacy and data‑protection perspective.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non‑lawyers and senior executives, and to drive clear decisions in ambiguous, time‑sensitive situations.
- Has a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance, proactively manages tasks and priorities across multiple projects, analyzes and executes work efficiently, collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams, and thrives in fast-paced, results-driven environments.
- Confidence using modern tools and systems (e.g., Generative AI, CLM tools, Asana, Slack, Notion) to amplify impact.
