About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- As an Examiner for the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation, Captive Insurance Division, your primary responsibilities include examinations and ongoing oversight of Vermont domiciled captive insurance companies.
- Utilizing a risk-focused approach, an Examiner will evaluate areas of captive insurance company operations and business practices, including corporate governance, strategy, business plan, IT systems, internal controls, financial reporting and regulatory compliance to ensure that the captive insurance company is able to meet it's obligations to insureds and is compliant with Vermont regulations.
- An Examiner also conducts research, participates on various task forces, is assigned special projects, and conducts annual and quarterly surveillance for a portfolio of companies.
- An Examiner must be self motivated and possess strong time management, organization, critical thinking and communication skills.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or an equally relevant field AND two (2) or more years of experience at or above a technical level in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, INCLUDING at least one (1) year of experience in financial accounting for insurance enterprises.
- OR Bachelor's degree AND four (4) or more years of experience at or above a technical level in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, INCLUDING at least one (1) year of experience in financial accounting for insurance enterprises.
- OR Eighteen (18) months of experience as an Insurance Examiner II with the State of Vermont, with satisfactory completion of departmental performance requirements.
- Employees must obtain CPA or AFE (Accredited Financial Examiner) designation within two (2) years of hire or promotion (not to exceed 4 years).
