About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Supervise and instruct offenders in food preparation, serving, and cleanup according to established menus and schedules
Monitor sanitation, safety, and security compliance in food service areas
Control tools, equipment, and offender movement to maintain facility security
Inspect food items and supplies for quality and quantity and report discrepancies
Operate and maintain kitchen equipment and ensure preventive maintenance
Complete production records, temperature logs, and inventory reports
Coordinate meal service and distribution to housing units
Respond to emergencies and security incidents in food service areas
Train and oversee offender work crews
Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing food and supplies
Complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Food Service Officer Training for new hires

Requirements

What you’ll need

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
One year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, commercial food service operations management, or as a Correctional Officer for Trainee and Level I
Two years of relevant experience for Level II
Three years of relevant experience for Level III
Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements under 12 NCAC 09G .0302
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
Ability to work any shift, including rotating, fixed, or split shifts; days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime
Complete required education history, work experience details, and applicable certificates and licenses
Education must be from appropriately accredited institutions
New hires must complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Food Service Officer Training, including an overnight weekday stay
Applicants seeking Veteran’s Preference must attach a DD-214 Member-4 Form
Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must provide the specified NGB or discharge documentation where applicable
