About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Supervise and instruct offenders in food preparation, serving, and cleanup according to established menus and schedules
Monitor sanitation, safety, and security compliance in food-service areas
Control tools, equipment, and offender movement to maintain facility security
Inspect food items and supplies for quality and quantity and report discrepancies
Operate and maintain kitchen equipment and complete preventive maintenance
Complete production records, temperature logs, inventory reports, and other documentation
Coordinate meal service and distribution to designated housing units
Respond to emergencies and security incidents in food-service areas
Train and oversee offender work crews
Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing food and supplies
Complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Food Service Officer Training (BCOT) as a new hire

Requirements

What you’ll need

Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements under 12 NCAC 09G .0302
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
Work any shift, including rotating, fixed, or split shifts
Work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required
Complete the application in full, including education history, work experience, and applicable certificates and licenses
Education must be from appropriately accredited institutions
Trainee: high school or GED diploma and one year of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Correctional Food Service Officer I: high school or GED diploma and one year of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Correctional Food Service Officer II: high school or GED diploma and two years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Correctional Food Service Officer III: high school or GED diploma and three years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
New hires must complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Food Service Officer Training (BCOT), including a required overnight weekday stay
