About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Maintain safety, custody, and supervision of offenders
Conduct searches of offenders, visitors, cells, and facility areas for contraband
Monitor offender activity in person and through surveillance systems
Maintain offender counts, housing assignments, and required records
Escort offenders within and outside the facility
Supervise offender work assignments
Identify and report behavioral, medical, or safety concerns
Complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training, including a required overnight weekday stay at the training facility

Requirements

What you’ll need

Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements under 12 NCAC 09G .0302
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
Ability to work any shift, including rotating, fixed, or split shifts
Availability for days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required
Correctional Officer I: High School or GED diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Correctional Officer II: High School or GED diploma and one year of experience as a Correctional Officer, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Correctional Officer III: High School or GED diploma and two years of experience as a Correctional Officer, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Education must be from appropriately accredited institutions
Complete application with education history, including high school, full work experience details, and certificates and licenses if applicable
New hires must successfully complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training
Must be able to complete a required overnight weekday stay at the training facility
