About the role

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of law enforcement experience involving power of arrest, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be a U.S. citizen
Must have current North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Certification
Maintain physical fitness meeting North Carolina law-enforcement certification standards
Maintain professional grooming and conduct on and off duty
Respond on a 24-hour, 7-day-per-week basis
Work a minimum 160-hour work period per month
Complete a 24-month probationary period
Attend and graduate from the 13-week SBI Special Agent Academy upon hire
Successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, including polygraph, credit and arrest checks, reference and verification interviews, medical examination, drug screening, and psychological assessment
Successfully complete Review Board assessment, modified POPAT, polygraph examination, and firearms assessment
Ability to evaluate consequences and make sound decisions promptly
Ability to understand and apply laws, statutes, and codes
Clear and effective communication via police radio and electronic communication systems
Preferred: knowledge of criminal investigation methods, physical evidence, North Carolina criminal laws, firearms, and evidence-collection equipment
Preferred: bilingual proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing
