About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Investigate criminal activity and conduct crime scene searches
- Interview and interrogate persons in connection with criminal investigations

- Assist law enforcement agencies with investigation and prosecution of cases

- Respond on a 24-hour, 7-day-per-week basis
- Attend the 13-week SBI Special Agent Academy and complete required field training
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have current North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Certification
- Must successfully complete BLET Training, the SBI Academy, and the SBI Field Training Program upon hire
- Must meet applicable North Carolina statutory standards for law-enforcement officers
- Maintain physical fitness sufficient for North Carolina law-enforcement certification standards
- Maintain professional grooming and appearance standards
- Make sound decisions promptly and evaluate consequences of alternative actions
- Comprehend, retain, and accurately apply laws, statutes, and codes
- Communicate clearly via police radio and electronic communication systems
- Conduct oneself on and off duty in a manner preserving credibility and community confidence
- Work a minimum 160-hour work period per month
- Serve a 24-month probationary period
- Successfully pass background investigation, pre-employment polygraph, credit and arrest checks, reference and verification interviews, medical examination, drug screening, and psychological assessment
- Successfully complete Review Board assessment, modified Physical Abilities Test, polygraph examination, and firearms assessment
- Bilingual proficiency is preferred; proficiency test administered
