About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Responsible for sampling, testing, and inspecting materials on highway construction projects throughout the assigned Division in order to assure that they meet prescribed standards and specifications.
Responsible for performing assessments of producer/contractor technicians to ensure that they are performing quality control and acceptance testing properly according to prescribed standards and specifications.
Provides instruction in the Department’s certification programs.
Must be able to sample and test asphalt, aggregate, concrete and soils materials used in highway construction.

What you’ll need

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated ability to assess testing proficiency of technicians to ensure compliance with established testing methods.
Experience evaluating and reviewing inspectors’ reports related to compliance with specifications.
Experience working in close quarters with restricted movement, climbing bridge substructures, and/or working over water or over and around high volumes of traffic.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with DOT staff, Contractors, and Industry Partners.
Experience using computers and various computer software on a regular basis.
