About the role

  • Serve as an Assistant District Engineer in the Boone District Office.
  • Review and approve driveway permits, encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions.
  • Supervise Engineering Technicians including the distribution of workload, tracking of permits as they move through the review and approval process, and performance evaluation.
  • Perform on-site inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments, and subdivisions.
  • Prepare deficiency letters as it relates to road additions.
  • Read and interpret construction plans.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, developers, members of the public, public officials, and other personnel.
  • Review driveway permit and encroachments plans, identify areas that are not in compliance with NCDOT standards, and respond to the applicant with a list of deficiencies.
  • Ensure permits, agreements, and projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Write memos and reports that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
  • Computer experience including office software and drafting software
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, policies, and procedures related to transportation
  • Experience in customer service related to resolving problems that involves explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups
  • Experience writing memos, reports, and emails that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
