About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform professional social work in child protection, children’s services, and adoption
  • Engage families to assess child safety and develop plans addressing safety, well-being, and permanency
  • Create family teams involving relatives, staff, and community resources to support safe solutions
  • Make timely, factually supported safety decisions with input from families and community stakeholders
  • Assess child safety, abuse, neglect, danger signs, family strengths, capabilities, and functioning
  • Separate dangerous caregivers from children when court action is required
  • Plan for child safety, family preservation, reunification, or permanent placement
  • Maintain accurate case records, assessments, activities, plans, summaries, reports, letters, and memos
  • Follow federal and state laws, mandates, policies, and timeframes
  • Perform case planning and petition for protective custody and placement when needed
  • Provide professional case management services for clients throughout Maine
  • Work Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 2 PM to 10 PM, with Wednesday and Thursday off

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution in Social Work/Social Welfare; OR a bachelor’s degree in a related social service/social welfare/social work area including at least 12 behavioral science, social science, or social work courses
  • Must have or be eligible for conditional or full licensure as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) through the Maine State Board of Social Worker Licensure
  • An LSW requires an earned BA/BS in social work/social welfare
  • An LSW-Conditional requires an earned BA/BS in a field related to social work/social welfare
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to effectively manage and meet deadlines
  • Frequent overtime, emergency standby coverage, and regular travel required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Currently not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions
