About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • This Position will serve on the Augusta based Striping / Stencil Crew in summer responsible for painting pavement markings.
  • Summer work involves Statewide travel and required overnight stay-away and overtime, the use and preventative maintenance of hand power tools and related heavy equipment to perform assigned duties.
  • Will also serve on the China Maintenance Crew out of Region 2 in winter.
  • In winter the pay and responsibilities of this position will align with other Region 2 Transportation Worker pay and duties and will include plowing snow and responding to emergencies typical to MaineDOT's normal operations.
  • Winter work also includes the use and preventative maintenance of hand power tools and related heavy equipment to perform assigned duties and may require long hours of work.
  • The incumbent must be able to be reached by landline/cell phone during off-duty hours in case of emergency or unscheduled work and must live within a reasonable distance from winter headquarters. Work is performed under direct supervision.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certification.
  • State-paid Medical examination that includes: a drug test.
  • Department’s Respirator fit test.
  • Class C State of Maine license by first day of employment.
  • Shall obtain and retain a valid Class B State of Maine license during the initial six-month probationary period.
  • Ability to become a certified snow fighter within 12 months.
  • Ability to obtain flagger certification within a specified amount of time.
  • Under federal law, only U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents, or H-2A, H-2B, or E-2 visa holders will be eligible for new or renewed CDLs.
