About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform analyses and reconciliations for accounting, financial reporting, and oversight
  • Collect, review, and compile accounting data and required financial reports
  • Prepare accounting manuals, memorandums, job-aids, presentations, and other guidance
  • Serve as instructor for training and workshops
  • Lead meetings with internal and external parties on accounting topics
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on accounting and policy matters
  • Assist management with proposals to update the Florida Administrative Code and Florida Statutes
  • Update procedures, checklists, templates, and accounting data collection forms
  • Lead the local government team in the Annual Financial Report review process
  • Follow up with local governments to obtain required information
  • Coach, mentor, and guide team members
  • Review and reconcile Clerk of Courts reports
  • Review legislation and analyze its effect on the Bureau and court-related programs
  • Liaise with legislative, governmental, and auditing organizations on local government and audit matters
  • Compile reports for data requests and public records requests
  • Serve as liaison for technical issues involving the LOGERx local government data system
  • Assist in developing accounting policies, administrative rules, memoranda, and communications
  • Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or its equivalent required
  • Two years of experience in accounting and/or auditing financial data
  • Two years of experience analyzing information in a structured format using traditional and/or computer-based data-analysis tools
  • Experience working with governmental accounting records
  • Experience with accounting data reconciliation
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting standards
  • Knowledge of accounting systems
  • Knowledge of methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing accounting data
  • Ability to use automated spreadsheet applications
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze, and interpret data to develop recommendations and solve problems
  • Ability to organize data logically for reports, documents, and written materials
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding research
  • Ability to use problem-solving techniques
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply Florida Statutes, laws, and rules
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Security background check, including fingerprinting, required as a condition of employment
  • Work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the office
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or another business major
  • Preferred: Experience reviewing financial reports for government entities and affiliates
  • Preferred: Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Preferred: User Acceptance Testing (UAT) experience
