About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Review the record of formal administrative hearings conducted pursuant to Chapter 443, Florida Statutes, and exercise independent judgment in determining: whether the hearing was conduct in accordance with the requirements of due process; whether the hearing officer’s findings of fact are supported by legally sufficient evidence; and whether the conclusions of law are in accord with statutory and regulatory provisions of law as interpreted by the Commission, state courts, and federal courts.
Prepare a summary that includes a legal opinion with respect to its disposition and draft a proposed order for the Commission which will constitute final administrative agency action.
Provide general legal advice and assistance to the Commission.
Handle telephone inquiries from the public regarding appeals to the Commission.
Represent the Commission before the Florida district courts of appeal when called upon.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Member of the Florida Bar in good standing with two-years’ experience
Excellent legal research and writing skills.
Attention to detail.
Ability to work both independently and as a team player, when necessary.
Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.
Preference Given to: Those with administrative law experience; employment law experience; and/or reemployment assistance (unemployment) law experience. Those without these stated preferences are still strongly encouraged to apply and training in these areas is provided.
