About the role
- Conduct legal research, prepare memos, and draft orders for the assigned Circuit Criminal, Family, Unified Family Court, Probate, and Civil Judges.
- Work involves considerable interpretation and judgment in the analysis of legal issues.
- Contacts are primarily with judges and court personnel.
- All work is performed under the supervision of a Senior Supervising Staff Attorney.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and Member in good standing with the Florida Bar.
- Five (5) years of work experience in the practice of law or as a law clerk in an appellate or trial court.
- Advise judges in assigned divisions on pending litigation and issues.
- Attend hearings and trials, review electronic case files, evidence, depositions, pleadings, motions, memoranda of law, and other documentation to advise judges in a variety of legal areas.
- Research legal matters, substantive and procedural, as directed by judges and draft legal memoranda, judgments, orders, reports, and other correspondence.
- Work effectively in a cooperative atmosphere with judges, attorneys, constitutional officers, and administrative staff functioning within a judicial circuit.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain and monitor a caseload, including Death Penalty cases and Postconviction Relief cases.
