About the role
- Assist with oyster research and long-term monitoring work in Apalachicola Bay.
- Participate in monthly oyster spat recruitment sampling.
- Conduct monthly oyster collections and annual population surveys.
- Perform laboratory work including processing oyster recruitment samples, image analysis, dissections, and microscopic analysis.
- Maintain sampling gear, field and lab equipment, vehicles, vessels, and trailers.
- Complete administrative tasks such as data entry, submitting travel forms, and maintaining timesheets.
- Participate in public outreach events and ongoing trainings.
Requirements
- 4 years professional experience in a closely-related biological field or laboratory program is required.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the biological sciences can substitute for the required experience.
- Proof of Open Water Scuba certification from a nationally accredited organization.
- A valid driver's license.
- Experience with scientific field work or marine invertebrates is preferred.
- AAUS scientific diving certification is preferred.
- Experience with trailering, vessel operation, and basic maintenance of boats, trucks, and trailers is preferred.
- Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory Level 1 background check.
