About the role

  • Contribute to Engine by Starling's award-winning platform and internal tooling
  • Build new features and products from scratch in a configurable way
  • Focus primarily on internal portal and tooling used by engineers (developer-facing systems)
  • Build and maintain reliable, scalable, maintainable infrastructure and tooling across the software delivery pipeline
  • Own projects and work in small teams to collaboratively deliver
  • Share knowledge and contribute to a learning culture
  • Tackle complex challenges using a first-principles approach
  • Support the scaling of the team and organisation as Engine expands globally

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a professional front-end engineer
  • Experience with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and strong knowledge of React
  • Experience building accessible websites and secure web applications that consume RESTful APIs and perform well
  • Experience with front-end technologies including navigating REST APIs and CSS/design system tweaks
  • Belief in clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment
  • Ownership of features from idea through to live
  • Comfort working in small empowered developer teams
  • Familiarity with TypeScript
  • Experience with libraries/frameworks such as Next.js, Gatsby, Redux, React Query
  • Design system management (Storybook, CSS-in-JS) and testing tools like Jest and React Testing Library
  • Some familiarity with AWS API Gateway, AWS Lambda, AWS CloudFront, GCP or Firebase is beneficial
