About the role

  • Leading the delivery of control testing across Operations, covering customer servicing, financial assistance, onboarding, payments, financial crime checks, and complaints.
  • Setting and executing the annual control testing plan, ensuring coverage aligns to risk priorities.
  • Reviewing and challenging how controls are designed and how effectively they operate.
  • Overseeing documentation of testing outcomes, ensuring results are accurate, consistent, and evidence-based.
  • Identifying and escalating material weaknesses or gaps in control execution.
  • Partnering with risk and control owners to track remediation and support sustainable fixes.
  • Feeding insights into risk reporting and the RCSA process, driving improvements in risk maturity.
  • Maintaining awareness of regulatory requirements and operational risks relevant to retail banking.
  • Coaching and supporting Analysts to develop capability in testing and risk insight.
  • Suggesting improvements to testing methodology and embedding best practice across the function.

Requirements

  • 4+ years’ experience in control testing, risk, assurance, monitoring, or audit, ideally within retail banking.
  • Strong knowledge of retail banking operations, products, and related risks (customer outcomes, consumer duty, payments, financial crime).
  • Experience leading small initiatives or projects and working directly with control owners.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to form a clear, evidence-based view.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with confidence to challenge constructively.
  • Ability to manage workload independently, balancing oversight and hands-on testing where needed.
  • A proactive mindset and a real interest in digital banking and improving the way controls operate.
