About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as Planning Task Lead, Hydraulics Lead, or Engineer of Record on complex water, wastewater, and stormwater conveyance programs
- Lead alternatives analyses for transmission corridors and storage tank sites, including multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) screening, weighting frameworks, and Board-ready alternatives recommendations
- Lead sequencing and resilience evaluations: hydraulic and operational performance across demand milestones, single-point-of-failure inventory, n-1 redundancy, and phased capacity build-out strategies
- Direct hydraulic modeling (steady-state, extended-period, transient/surge), including WaterCAD model maintenance, scenario development, and flow allocation planning across member agencies
- Integrate hydraulic, GIS, cost, and SME evaluation results into clear technical memoranda, Board presentations, and program decision support tools
- Provide technical leadership and QA/QC across the team; mentor developing engineers and modelers
- Build and grow trusted client relationships; lead pursuits, proposals, and client interviews
- Represent Stantec in professional organizations and at industry conferences (AWWA, WEF, PNWS-AWWA, PNCWA)
Requirements
What you’ll need- Deep expertise in conveyance design: large-diameter transmission and force mains, sanitary collection (open channel hydraulics, diurnal patterns, flow diversion), pipe rehabilitation (CIPP, pipe bursting, sliplining), and trenchless construction (HDD, microtunneling, auger boring)
- Proven leadership of pump stations, lift stations, reservoirs, storage tanks, and wet weather storage
- Demonstrated experience leading corridor and site alternatives analyses, MCDM screening, and Board-level alternatives recommendations on regional water supply or transmission programs
- Strong proficiency with hydraulic and design software (WaterCAD, InfoWater, InfoWorks ICM, PCSWMM, EPANET, EPA SWMM, HEC-RAS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS), plus transient analysis
- Experience coordinating hydraulic modeling outputs with GIS layers, cost frameworks, and SME evaluation results to inform planning-level decisions
- Established client relationships in the Pacific Northwest or Mountain West strongly preferred
- Track record of winning and delivering pursuits as a technical lead or Engineer of Record
- Strong communicator and team leader; skilled at building consensus and leading through complexity
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's preferred
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in water/wastewater conveyance planning, design, and hydraulic modeling, with senior technical leadership
- Washington PE license required; additional Mountain West state PEs preferred
