About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and prepare complex engineering designs, plans, and drawings for a variety of projects, including urban and rural roadways, highways, and intersections
- Apply advanced knowledge of transportation engineering principles and stay current on evolving methods and technologies.
- Coordinate effectively with Project Managers, multidisciplinary teams, and clients.
- Responsible for the design, quality reviews, and sealing of assigned projects.
- Supervise and mentor engineers, CAD staff, and junior team members, providing leadership, guidance, and professional development.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Proven ability to solve complex problems using sound judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Proficiency with CADD technologies, including MicroStation, PowerGEOPAK, and OpenRoads 3D modeling tools.
- Strong understanding of design and plan production processes, particularly within Illinois jurisdictions, including IDOT and ISTHA standards and procedures.
- Strong communication skills—both verbal and written—with the ability to convey ideas, design issues, and solutions clearly.
- Ability to review the work of others for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design standards.
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills and a commitment to meeting project deadlines and budgets.
- Collaborative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with a positive attitude and a passion for team success.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Transportation, or a related field is required.
- Professional Licensure: Illinois PE required.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in highway/roadway design is preferred.
