About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Use knowledge of general concepts of relevant civil engineering elements including system hydraulics, surveying and topographic mapping, geotechnical considerations, grading, utility investigations and analyses.
  • Assist team in preparing analyses and results for client presentations and technical reports.
  • Assist team in preparing design drawings, specifications, quantity estimates, cost opinions, and gather information to support design decisions.
  • Conduct basic calculations and performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned and under the supervision of a project engineer.
  • Perform GIS analyses to support engineering and technical decisions and presentations.
  • Prepare design reports and technical memorandums to summarize engineering tasks.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary design teams in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer.
  • Assist the team in providing support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications.
  • May perform field work related to collection systems.
  • Assist in supporting the civil team in providing support services during capital improvement planning that can include data reviews, research, hydraulic analyses, and requests for information from different agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Some understanding of hydrology and hydraulics, urban sewer system, storm water/drainage, or water distribution system, and urban flooding
  • Strong interests in sewer or water distribution planning / modeling
  • Experience in Microsoft Office and ArcGIS. Willingness to learn new software
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software programs, such as PCSWMM, InfoWorks, or InfoWater
  • Ability to focus on all areas of a project or task and must be organized to maintain efficiency while producing accurate work
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
  • Understanding of civil engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others
  • Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar material
  • Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years of related experience
  • Licensure: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required
