About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Responsible for the design of structural elements and systems in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
  • Work on multiple projects of small to large scale using various materials.
  • Interact with a wide variety of clients from owners, developers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Prepare design calculations, technical specifications, and engineering drawings for concrete, steel, masonry, and wood building structures.
  • Prepare and revise documentation at various design phases, including floor plans, diagrams, and details.
  • Work with team members in determining viable solutions for design issues.
  • Work to and meet project timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate design work with other disciplines, other offices, and other project team members.
  • Preparation and review of technical reports.
  • Participate in constructability reviews.
  • Participate in Stantec’s quality assurance and quality control process.
  • Construction administration including site reviews.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and training of less experienced professionals as required.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Structural/ Civil Engineering from an accredited university required.
  • Professional Engineer in good standing with PEO preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in consulting within a buildings structural team preferred.
  • General knowledge and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes (ex. OBC, A23.3, S16, S304, O86).
  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • General knowledge of structural systems, means & methods of construction, and materials.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • General understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Understanding of Component Design Software and Building Analysis Software. Experience with SAFE, SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, and/ or MASS preferred.
