About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and lead all aspects of HV substation design
  • Perform QA/QC of electrical engineering design packages
  • Work closely with Project Managers to meet project timelines for engineering deliverables
  • Determine appropriate allocation of resources and track man-hours on projects
  • Review, comment, and approve electrical design & drawings for substation construction packages for codes and standards compliance
  • Work with the P&C team to produce complete station drawings
  • Attend client interactions and project status meetings
  • Participate in project planning meetings and reviews

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Registered P.ENG in Canada
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in utility HV substation design is required.
  • Experience with site visits, FAT, to capture all technical data needed for estimates and execution of related substation expansions is preferred.
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers working on Substation design, including interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Capable of producing station one lines, key plans (layouts), conduit plans, lightning, grounding calculations, lighting plans, station typical elevations, and BOMs.
  • Capable of writing equipment specifications and reviewing vendor drawings.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good client relationships and be able to demonstrate solid technical ability.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and develop strong internal and external relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to mentor engineers and designers.
  • Experience and understanding of AIS and GIS substation designs
